Alberta Launches New Expression of Interest System for AAIP Worker Streams

nmredm

Alberta has introduced a new system for issuing Expressions of Interest (EOIs) to candidates within certain Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) pathways. This new approach will streamline the selection process, improve efficiency and better match to Alberta’s labour market needs.

Overview of the New EOI System:

As of September 30, candidates who want to apply for AAIP worker streams must submit a Worker Expression of Interest (EOI). This will involve logging into the AAIP portal and completing an online form with your personal and professional details. Key

Features of the EOI System: -

1) No Application Fee: You can submit your Worker EOI for free. -

2) Ranking System: Like the federal Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), Alberta’s Worker EOI system will rank candidates based on human capital factors such as education, language skills, work experience, age and family connections in Alberta. -

3) Selection Process: Those with higher scores will be more likely to receive an invitation to apply. Invitations will be sent by email.

Important Note for Candidates:

You must not have an existing Worker EOI, Entrepreneur EOI or an active AAIP application before creating a new Worker EOI. Any existing or draft applications must be withdrawn before submitting a new EOI.

Alberta Worker Streams and Demand Management Earlier this year:

Alberta changed its application process for Worker Streams to manage high demand and focus on labour market priorities.

Key Changes to Application Acceptance:

In June, the province introduced a cap on the number of applications accepted at any one time. Once the cap is reached, the pool will close until the next cycle to ensure better processing times and alignment with Alberta’s labour needs.

The affected streams are:

1) Alberta Opportunity Stream -

2) Rural Renewal Stream

3) Accelerated Tech Pathway

4) Tourism and Hospitality Stream

These changes will allow for year-round access and multiple opportunities for applicants to apply.

Alberta Opportunity Stream:

High Demand The Alberta Opportunity Stream has seen extremely high demand in 2024 and was temporarily paused in February to June. The pause allowed the AAIP to manage its application inventory and allocate resources to high-priority sectors.

Why the New System?

Alberta’s new EOI system addresses the need for a more targeted approach to immigration. The province was allocated 9,750 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nominations for 2024 from IRCC. This system will balance processing times while prioritizing sectors such as healthcare, technology, construction, agriculture and tourism.

Conclusion:

Alberta’s new Expression of Interest system for AAIP Worker Streams shows the province’s commitment to addressing labour shortages and economic growth. By doing this, Alberta can more efficiently select candidates who match its labour market needs, creating opportunities for immigrants and employers.
